Top Charter Organization Rocketship Education’s Increased National Expansion
Four years after opening its first school in Santa Clara County, Rocketship Education was looking to significantly expand its presence and the number of schools it operated from three in 2007 to 20 by 2017 in regions across the country. To successfully do so, Rocketship needed to build its prominence and community support both in the Silicon Valley as well as introduce its work to families in new regions – Milwaukee, Wis., Nashville, Tenn. and Washington, D.C. to start.
To raise awareness of Rocketship and its national impact, Larson Communications focused on proactive announcements about the organization’s model, growth and leadership, executed both regionally and nationally. At the same time, Larson secured top tier speaking opportunities for CEO Preston Smith and central Rocketship leadership to SXSWedu, YouTube Edu, the National School Boards Conference, the NewSchools Venture Fund Summit, Education Technology Information Forum, the National Charter Schools Conference and iNACOL.
Through proactive announcements made in key regions as well as national coverage on Rocketship’s blended learning model, Larson was able to continuously expand visibility, contributing to increased philanthropic support and further growth.
Larson’s work increased the total annual media impressions by over 200 percent from 2011 to 2013. Stories about Rocketship appeared in USA Today, The Economist, Christian Science Monitor, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, NPR and the Associated Press.
